EXHIBITION | HONORING OUR QUEER ELDERS

There are a number of individuals who assisted in bringing this project to fruition. This includes the University of San Francisco (USF) undergraduate students who have been part of the community engaged learning Jewish studies course "Honoring our LGBTQIA+ Elders," which has been taught at USF by Rabbi Angel since 2020 and the Teaching Elders who have volunteered their time to teach, share, and invite these students in to help curate their legacy stories.
I also want to thank former USF students Lydia Scott, Megan Shirron, and Kei McCarthy. I am grateful for their assistance. Lydia in particular spent a great deal of time on this project, and designed the image found on the Homepage (i.e., of the cassette tape), the montage found on the top of the "Introduction" and the "LGBTQIA+ Legacy Profiles" pages, and the 24 personalized images found throughout the exhibit.
JSSJ staff MJ Abrams and Victoria Farlow were both quite helpful. JSSJ Director Aaron Hahn Tapper and Asst. Director Oren Kroll-Zeldin supported this project from its inception through its publication. Hahn Tapper also offered important assistance in the final stage of the exhibit.
As for the central content of the exhibition, thanks goes specifically to the Teaching Elders whose 23 legacy videos make up this exhibit's rich tapestry, as well as the many other Teaching Elders whose videos may be added in the future. We are indebted to these individuals. Thank you for agreeing to share your lives with the larger public.
Thank you to Ari Salomon and Katerina Georgieva of the website design and development team, Hello Ari.
Last but certainly not least, I have also been blessed in my life with many older, wiser, LGBTQIA+ elders, each of whom has enriched my life and taught me life lessons about aging, my history as a queer person, and offered me and, by subsequent transmission, our students, opportunities to share our hope and dreams about the future.
