Bobbie Becker was born and raised in New York, where she studied nursing at Hunter College. Her career as a nurse spanned the height of the AIDS crisis. Her mother, Bernice, founded PFLAG and had three children, all of whom were gay. Bobbie and her co-parent raised a son as lesbian parents in the 1990s. She is now retired and a full-time grandmother.
