Joss Eldredge
Joss Eldredge was born in Southern California in November 1950, but she was drawn to Northern California and moved to Big Sur in her early twenties. In Big Sur, Joss fell in love with a woman and realized despite loving Big Sur, she needed to be in an area with a community of lesbians like her. After reading Lesbian/Woman by Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, Joss packed her bags and her hound dog and left for San Francisco. She found her way to Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian political and civil rights organization, which was initially a secret social club for lesbians, and her world exploded overnight.
Joss dedicated much of her life to trades work, both as a carpenter and a sheet metal worker. During this time, she met Sandra Marilyn. She was a pioneer in the trades alongside her wife of over forty years. Joss has dedicated the latter part of her life to being a dog walker. Joss has a voracious appetite for history and an ever present creative spirit. She dedicates a lot of her time in retirement to working on her neighborhood garden, walking her dog (Maggie), and reading.
"I've always had a strong connection to the natural world: plants, animals, birds, and rocks. Even though she is a city woman, my yard is the neighborhood hang-out for birds, squirrels, mice, and an occasional rat buddy." - Joss Eldredge
