Kathleen Archambeau

Bio

Kathleen is an award-winning nonfiction writer and journalist. Previously, she wrote a regular column profiling iconic figures for one of the country's oldest queer newspapers. Her first book, Climbing the Corporate Ladder in High Heels, was endorsed by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and bestselling author Leslie Blodgett and was featured in Forbes magazine twice. Her essay, "Seized," was included in a collection of 21 Lesbian essays called "The Other Woman," which was edited by Victoria Zackheim and featured other acclaimed authors such as Jane Smiley. It was lauded by Publishers Weekly for its "top-drawer writers," and was featured on The Today Show, People, L.A. Sunday Weekly, and O magazines.

Kathleen was a founding supporter of the LGBT+ wing of the San Francisco Public Library and the Dance of America Foundation Board, and served as Vice President and Co-Chair of fundraising for one of the first mental health agencies dedicated to providing services for the LGBT+ community. She has worked tirelessly to ensure equal access for all LGBTQ+ individuals. Along with her wife, Archambeau has won numerous first place ribbons and two bronze medals in same-sex ballroom dancing at the Gay Games in Cologne and was featured in The Trevor Project video "It Gets Better series," aimed at preventing gay youth suicide, and the documentary "Come Dance with Us," filmed and produced by Robert Cortlandt.

Kathleen lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her beloved and their guide dog, Career Change Puppy.

Note: Kathleen is one of the elders of this exhibit who participated in the course out of which these legacy videos emerged, is LGBTQIA+ identified, and has a religious history that isn’t Jewish.
